Radio Emission from UV Cet: Auroral Emission from a Stellar Magnetosphere

چکیده

The archetypical flare star UV Cet was observed by MeerKAT on 5-6 October 2021. A large radio outburst with a duration of $\sim\!2$ hr between 886-1682 MHz time resolution 8s and frequency 0.84 MHz, enabling sensitive dynamic spectra to be formed. emission is characterized three peaks containing multitude broadband arcs or partial in the time-frequency domain. In general, are highly right-hand circularly polarized. During end third peak, brief bursts occur that significantly elliptically We present simple model appears broadly consistent characteristics from Cet. Briefly, stellar magnetic field modeled as dipole aligned rotational axis star. mechanism assumed due cyclotron maser instability where x-mode radiation near electron gyrofrequency amplified. While polarized may intrinsic source, rather stringent limits imposed plasma density source along propagation path. suggest instead result reflection an over-dense structure at some distance source. Radio UV~Cet shares both planetary attributes.

Backward wave cyclotron-maser emission in the auroral magnetosphere.

In this Letter, we present theory and particle-in-cell simulations describing cyclotron radio emission from Earth's auroral region and similar phenomena in other astrophysical environments. In particular, we find that the radiation, generated by a down-going electron horseshoe distribution is due to a backward-wave cyclotron-maser emission process. The backward wave nature of the radiation cont...

X-ray and Radio Emission from Colliding Stellar Winds

The collision of the hypersonic winds in early-type binaries produces shock heated gas, which radiates thermal X-ray emission, and relativistic electrons, which emit nonthermal radio emission. We review our current understanding of the emission in these spectral regions and discuss models which have been developed for the interpretation of this emission. Physical processes which affect the resu...

Radio Emission from Algol

We report dual circular polarization VLBA observations of Algol made at orbital phases 0.22{0.30 using a diierential phase referencing technique. The ux density of Algol varied from 10{20 mJy during the observations. The radio maps show a double-lobe source separated by 1.6 mas (1.4 times the K star diameter). Although the total emission is only weakly circularly polarized, the individual lobes...

Radio Emission from Exoplanets

We present results from new low frequency observations of two extrasolar planetary systems (ε Eridani and HD128311) taken at 150 MHz with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). We do not detect either system, but are able to place tight upper limits on their low frequency radio emission.

Radio Emission from Jupiter

Three reviews of radio emission from Jupiter have appeared recently (1, 2, 3) and at least one more is currently in press. The present review primarily covers work since 1961. It would be not too strong to suggest that explanations of Jupiter's emission now are in the second generation, with most observational phenomena fairly well established. The salient observed features are not widely known...
